I know it can be tough if you’re dating a guy and his best friend is a woman. You want to appear cool and laidback but at the same time, you just don’t feel comfortable with your guy having a woman as his best friend. So, what can you do about it? I have 3 tips for you today on that.
My 1st tip if his best friend is a woman is to try to get to know the woman and to understand the relationship between her and your man. A good way to do that is to hang out with them. If you do that, you might find out that their relationship is more like that between a brother and a sister than that between lovers and it may make you more accepting of their relationship.
My 2nd tip if his best friend is a woman is to talk to your boyfriend about your thoughts and fears about his friendship with this woman. A relationship is nothing without communication. If you feel unsure about the relationship between your boyfriend and his female best friend, you need to talk to him about it but don’t do it in an accusatory manner.
Even though it may not feel like it, this talk is less about your man and more about you because you are the one that has an issue being in this situation in which you are the new member. Remember that it makes no sense for you to be offended about your boyfriend having a female best friend if you have a male best friend. Be fair in your dealings with your partner.
Let your man know how uncomfortable you feel with him having a best friend who is female. Depending on how he feels about you, he may try to reassure you, he may give up the friendship with the other woman or he may tell you that his friendship with his female best friend is there to stay and you can take it or leave it. What you may decide to do after that conversation is then up to you.
My 3rd tip on what to do if his best friend is a woman is to take a decision on the matter and then follow through. It’s silly to act as if you’re fine with your man having a woman as a best friend but then secretly start trying to sabotage their friendship or start accusing him of sleeping with her all the time. If you don’t trust him or you don’t trust her, you have to talk to him about it. And if he won’t give up his friendship with her, then you might have to give up your relationship with him.
This isn’t about winning or losing a battle. This is about your sanity and realising that no matter what society tries to make you believe, there is no scarcity of good men out there. When you’re ready, yours will find you.
