What to do if you’re single and depressed

what to do if you're single and depressed www.lapesoetan.com

Depression is a very serious issue and if you’re a single woman, particularly if you’re over 30 and you want to be in a relationship but are not then it’s easy to fall into depression.  I’ve been depressed about being single in the past so I know how it feels.  I want to help any single woman who may be in that position and that’s why I decided to address this topic today.

Prefer to read rather that watch the video?  Here’s what’s in it:

First of all, depression is not as rare as you think it is.  Like AIDS, ‘e no dey show for face’.  You can’t tell by looking at someone if they have depression or not.  That bubbly, seemingly-happy girl you see every week at the salon or at the bank may be battling a serious bout of depression.  That’s why it’s important to remember the quote that says ‘Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle’.

Depression is no discriminator and happens to rich women, poor women, those who are beautiful and those who think they’re ugly.  If you feel depressed or you have suicidal thoughts, then you really need to seek help.  You need to talk to somebody who knows what they’re doing.  You need to talk to someone who you know is objective and who has shown they can help in the past.  Don’t keep it all inside.  Talk to somebody.  Don’t try to battle it on your own.  Get help.  Apart from that, there are some little things that you can do to help yourself and to turn depression around so that you feel happier.

My very first tip is that you should force yourself to go out.  The thing about depression is that it makes you feel as if everything is horrible and nothing can make you feel better.  It makes you want to stay in bed all day but that is the exact thing that you should battle.  Don’t stay in bed all day.  Force yourself to go out.  It doesn’t have to be anything big.  Just go somewhere where you’ll see people.  You can go to a market or you can walk around a mall or meet up with a friend.  Whatever it is, just go out.  I know this is very difficult but force yourself to do so.

Then, there are some basic tips that people with depression are often given and those are to eat right, that means eat a balanced diet, exercise more and get enough sleep.  Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night.  Those are some little tips that everybody that has depression is given.

Then my final tip for you is that you should think up little tasks for yourself and do those tasks.  For example, when I say ‘little’, I mean really little.  It could be something as small as clearing the desktop on your computer or folding your clothes or cleaning your fridge.  Just pick one small task and do it.  You’ll gain two things by this.  First of all, the activity will do your body good and it will release feel-good hormones in your body which of course, make you feel good.  The second thing that will happen is that your mind will be distracted.  You’ll stop thinking that the world is a horrible place and nobody likes you and nothing will ever make you happy.  That distraction is good and is what will help you turn your life around.

Do these little tasks for a month.  At the end of the month, check how you feel.  If you feel a little better, give yourself a pat on the back because it’s a big deal.  It might be a small task but you’ve done something big.  Enjoy the sense of achievement that you feel then do those tasks again for another month.  Take baby steps.  Don’t force yourself to do something big.  Just do small steps, small tasks every day and then you’ll feel better.
