Going Places with Penelope Trunk

Miami Beach is one of the places Penelope Trunk first went on holiday

Going Places is a regular feature on this blog.  It is an interview-style feature where different personalities tell us about the highlights of their holidays.  Enjoy it.

 1.    Tell us about your very first holiday.

I went to The Doral, in Miami Beach, to visit my great grandma. She lived there in the winter.

2.    What has been your most memorable holiday?

My family’s trip to France. I got very sick and had to stay in bed for a week. My family didn’t want to miss Paris, so they went sightseeing every day and left me in the hotel room. It’s when I realised I prefer being alone in a hotel room than sightseeing.

3.    What do you like most about vacations?

Coming home.

4.    What do you hate most about vacations?

Everything else. I really like my life. I don’t need a vacation from it. I like routine and predictability. Travel is the opposite of that.

5.    How would you spend your perfect day on holiday?

Reading in bed. And then, for two hours I get out of bed for a Pilates session with a private instructor who comes to my house.

6.    Where would you most like to go on holiday? Why?

I traveled a ton as a kid, and I hated the chaos. I always just wanted to be home. As an adult, I have had jobs where I travel every week. I used to like the part of travel where you hang out in a nice hotel. But travel every week for business made me sick of nice hotels as well. I like being home. I like routine. I like creating a life at home that is as refreshing and fun as a vacation.
