Honeymoon Holiday: Yetunde Ajayi

Honeymoon holiday is a new feature on my blog.  It’s an interview-style feature where different people tell us about their honeymoon holidays.  Enjoy it.

Yetunde and Ayodele Ajayi in Tenerife

1. When did you go on your honeymoon?

That was in October 2009.

2.Where did you go on your honeymoon?

My husband, Ayodele and I went to Tenerife (the largest of the Canary Islands).  We wanted to go to somewhere in Europe that we could be almost certain would have beautiful sunshine and where we could relax by the beach but still have fun visiting tourist spots.  We stayed at Sheraton Hotel, Tenerife.

3.What did you like most about your honeymoon location?

I particularly loved the terrain in Tenerife.  On one side of our hotel, we had a marvellous view of the Mount Teide and on the other side, the ocean. It was very romantic. I also enjoyed visiting the largest water park in Europe; we got to feel young and free, it was amazing!

4.What was the least favourite thing about your honeymoon holiday?

My least favourite thing was actually what led to my favourite thing. My husband and I went up Mount Teide. However, his genius idea was to rent a car and drive up the narrow roads leading to the top of the mountain (truth is there is really no other way to get up there!) but the road which is two-way but extremely narrow looked like a death trap to me! I was terrified throughout the 2 hour-ride. It was a very steep, long and curvy road.  Now, I am not too scared of heights but as you take every bend during the ride, it feels like you will tip over at any moment.  When you get to a particular point, you take a cable ride to the very top of the mountain and the view from there is absolutely amazing.  It felt like I was in the middle of the clouds.

5.If you were going on honeymoon again today, where would you go and why?

I know this sounds like a cliché but if we were to go on our honeymoon again, it would still be Tenerife, I loved every moment.
