Tennis and travel: the perfect match

Djokovic celebrating a point during a tennis match

I love tennis.  Before illusions of Venus Williams come to anyone’s mind though, let me qualify that statement.  I love watching tennis on TV.  I’ve never played a stroke of the game in my life but that has never dulled my enjoyment of the sport.  At the moment, I’m avidly following Novak Djokovic’s performance.  He has won 42 matches in a row – an impressive record.

Earlier this year, I decided that one of the things I would like to do is watch a Wimbledon final match live.  For some strange reason, Wimbledon is my favourite tennis grand slam and watching a final there would be amazing for me.  Soon after I started this blog though, I thought ‘Why stop at Wimbledon’?  So my new tennis goal is to watch all four grand slams live.  The tennis grand slams in chronological order are the Australian Open, the French Open (or Roland Garros), Wimbledon and the US Open so following my favourite sport would mean travelling to Melbourne, Paris, London  and New York.  It would be a fantastic world city tour.  I love the idea of combining my love of travel with my love of tennis and hope I get to do it.

I know it’s common for football fans to follow their teams around the country.  Have you ever travelled around to support a team or sport you love?  Tell us in the comments.
