Recently, a woman told me she had never been in a relationship before and was scared that she didn’t know how to be a good girlfriend. At first, I thought that was a little strange until I remembered a time when I was single for years and I told someone that I had forgotten how to be a girlfriend. Those 2 incidents made me realise that this topic is relevant.

Okay, so back to our topic for the day. How to be a good girlfriend. Unfortunately, there’s no one perfect answer to this question. Because men are different, what one man would consider a good girlfriend is different from what another would consider a good girlfriend.
For example, while one man may think a good girlfriend is someone who comes to his place every weekend and cooks for him and his friends, another guy may think that that cooking thing is unimportant as long as the girl is excellent in bed.
Having said that, I think there are some general rules we can be guided by in order to be a good girlfriend or even a good boyfriend in fact because these aren’t things that are limited ONLY to women.
To be a good girlfriend or boyfriend, you need to do 3 things:
- Listen carefully to what your partner says – verbally and non-verbally. Body language is so important.
- Try not to speak when angry. Don’t take big decisions when angry or sad either.
- Remember birthdays. I’m just joking J Note the things that make your partner happy and do them regularly.
