Going Places with Amber McNaught

One of Amber’s most memorable holidays was in Los Angeles

Going Places is a regular feature on this blog.  It is an interview-style feature where different personalities tell us the highlights of their holidays.  Enjoy it.

1.     Tell us about your very first holiday.

The first holiday I can remember was a trip to Canada and the United States, when I was five. My aunt and uncle live in Edmonton, and we stayed with them for a couple of weeks, before driving down into the US, and spending a bit of time in Montana and Idaho. I think we may have seen a little bit of Washington, too, but I’m not sure. I do have very vivid memories of crossing the Rocky Mountains, and of Glacier National Park.

2.     What is your most memorable holiday?

Probably our trip to California this summer. We spent a few days in San Francisco, and then drove down to L.A., where we rented a house on a hill, with the most amazing views: I’ll remember it forever!

3.     What do you like most about vacations?

Sunshine! I live in the land of permanent winter, but I’m a sun worshipper at heart, so I love the opportunity to get away from the cold and rain, and just relax for a couple of weeks!

4.     What do you hate most about vacations?

The preparation: because I’m self-employed, and there’s no one to fill in for me when I’m away, I have to make sure all of my work is done before I go, which can be pretty stressful. I’m also scared of flying, so the actual “travel” part isn’t much fun either, although it’s always worth it in the end.

5.     How would you spend your perfect day on holiday?

A bit of relaxing, a bit of sightseeing and a bit of shopping, followed by a lovely meal somewhere with an amazing view.

6.     Where would you most like to go on holiday? Why?

I’d like to travel across the United States: there are just so many things I still want to see there that I’d like to be able to take my time and go wherever the mood took me!
